The Odds & Evens Game
Odd or Even is a game between two people whose goal is to randomly resolve a deadlock. Participants bet on even and odd. After that, both show their hands hiding some fingers. The
fingers are counted, and the person who has correctly guessed if the total number of fingers is an even or odd number wins.
In this web app you can choose between 'evens' or 'odds'. There's no need to choose the
number, as the app will assign automatically a random number between 1 and 5 for each oponent!
This game was known by the Greeks (as artiazein) and Romans (as ludere par impar). The game Odds and Evens was very common amongst the Romans and was played either with tali (Tali were the six-sided “knucklebones” — ankle bones — of sheep or goats. Romans used them as dice and also made artificial versions out of many materials), or money, and known as Alea maior, or with nuts, beans and almonds, and known as Alea minor.
